Brother & sister setting foot in a new country for the first time..



The vikings had a tremendous urge to travel & they built settlements all over the world, as far away as the americas, where rune inscriptions has been found, and particularly the mysterious Vinland (a land of sagas) that many people for centuries thought only fiction in old norse scripts. The whereabouts of this place was deemed uncertain for ages, however in more recent times evidence has been found that Vinland was indeed located in america.


"Vinland was the name given to an area of North America by the Norsemen, about the year 1000 CE.

There is a consensus among scholars that the Vikings reached North America approximately five centuries prior to the voyages of Christopher Columbus. In 1960 archaeological evidence of the only known Norse settlement in North America (outside of Greenland) was found at L'Anse aux Meadows on the northern tip of the island of Newfoundland, in what is now the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. This proved conclusively the Vikings' pre-Columbian discovery of North America. Recent archaeological studies suggest that this site is not the Vinland of the Norse accounts in its entirety but was the entrance to a larger region called Vinland by the Norse." - Wikipedia


- There where even evidence of women having lived alongside the men in the L'Anse aux Meadow settlements for the short time they had settlement there..




I have always had a heartfelt and strong bond with the ancient history of the norse people - My people.

I have ancestors in amongst others, Scotland and norway as well as in my birth country Denmark.

My oldest (certain; mentioned more than 2 independent sources) ancestor was Rognvald "The Wise" Eysteinsson... Earl of More, Romsdal & Orkney.
